A green school
Offers improvements in children’s health. Studies have demonstrated that green schools greatly
reduce student sick days.
It also:
improves the health and energy-efficiency of the facility
ensures environmental education in the classroom
reinforces healthy food choices
promotes alternative means of transportation
expands opportunities for all students.
Work with what you’ve got
If you can't build a green school…
start a recycling program: reduce, reuse, recycle
use eco-friendly supplies: recycled papers, non toxic art supplies
Avoid using excess amounts of paper at school.
Use all of the sheets in a notebook before starting the next one
Use the double-sided feature for printers and copiers,
Send text messages to friends instead of passing notes!
In the school
Start a school garden -- kids are more likely to eat veggies if they grow them themselves
Enforce a “no idling” policy
Encourage more children to ride bikes, walk, carpool to school
Use eco-friendly cleaners instead of chemicals.
A Healthy environment = healthier kids
